We are very excited to announce this year’s Group Lesson week classes. We were pleased with how last year went and will continue with the same format. This year, as in the past, we will divide the studio up by grade. The hour-long core classes will be broken up into three segments:
1. Student Performances
This will give students the opportunity to continue getting comfortable playing for their peers in an easy setting. It will also give them the chance to listen to others and talk about the things they noticed.
2. Music History and Appreciation
Over the course of the 5 weeks, students will get a general overview of music history from early music to modern popular music. The twist is that we will be going backwards. We will start in the modern era and work back to the early music of the 1700s. Students will get a brief taste of art and architecture of the various periods but will then focus on a specific performer or composer from that time. There will be listening examples in class and suggested listening for home.
3. Music Theory
The final component will involve general music theory. These parts carefully follow the Wisconsin State standards for music education.
We ask that this year students register for a core class and plan to attend that class at that day and time throughout the year. This helps us immensely with planning and teacher availability etc. Also, having consistent classmates makes the classes more fun for all! Email reminders will be sent a week prior to
We will also offer a number of specialty classes for the year. Students are encouraged to sign up for multiple classes if they like. There is no extra fee for additional classes.
