Drawing Fundamentals

Grades 1-3

Tuesdays 4:45-5:45pm: June 4, 11, 18, 25

This skill-building class for the young artist encourages and shapes early drawing techniques. Each session will build on the skills learned in the previous class and students will work their sketches and ideas into fantastic finished pieces of artwork!

Have fun creating your own characters while learning the basics of cartooning. Design, create and write your own stories based on your imagination.

Canvas Painting

Grades 3-8

Wednesdays 5:30-6:45pm: June 5, 12, 19, 26

Brush up on your acrylic painting skills and learn new artistic methods and techniques. Canvas painting is the next step for more experienced painters already comfortable with paper surfaces.

Inspired Painting

Grades 1-3

Thursdays 4:45-5:45pm: June 6, 13, 20, 27

Join us as we explore fundamentals such as composition, balance, and color in painting. Students will be introduced to past and current artists to encourage their artistic expressions while painting in non-traditional methods. The class will cover tempera, watercolor and acrylic paints.

These art lessons will explore a variety of materials and drawing tools while focusing on joyful and imaginative self-expressive art.  Students will use creative problem solving to create art projects.  There will be a focus on making choices using drawing and mixed media materials that will help create fantastic art.

All Mixed Up

Grades 1-3

Wednesdays 4:30-5:30pm: July 10, 17, 24, 31

Become a “pop artist” (no, that’s not just for singers– there really is a style of art called pop art)! Create artwork using dozens of different techniques and mediums. Paper mache, collage, pastels, paint, sculpture, and much more will be used to create highly stylized art. Expect to draw, print, paint, sculpt, and more.

Building Art

Grades K-3

Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm: July 10, 17, 24, 31

The class will use found objects such as tin cans, cardboard, and egg cartons for students to create fun and creative sculptures. Use paint, glue, paper mache, and model magic to complete your three-dimensional masterpieces!

Color Your World

Grades 3-6

Thursdays 4:45-5:45pm: July 11, 18, 25, August 1

This class will cover oil pastels, crayons, markers, color pencils, and chalk pastels. Each medium will create drastically different and dramatic art masterpieces. Lessons will focus on proper application along with drawing fundamentals such as composition and the seven elements of art.

A Different Way to Paint

Grades 1-3

Painting Class

Do you like painting flowers, tigers or even spooky space creatures?  Then this is the class for you!  Take the next step in creating beautiful paintings in Painting 101.  Each session will teach you skills to become a better painter with basic direction and practice.  Learn how to plan your painting and how to match and blend colors like a pro.  Paint with watercolors, tempera and acrylic paints on paper, board and canvas.

Mosaic Masterpieces

Grades 3-8

Thursdays 5:45 – 7:00pm: Jan. 17 – Feb. 7

Students will learn how to create an attractive mosaic design and then utilize the design to make 3D mosaic pieces of their choice (mirrors, boxes, and vases) using recycled glass.  They make great gifts or can be beautiful decorative additions to your home!

Pencil Drawing

Grades 3-6

Take your drawing skills to a new level! Learn the secrets to becoming a better artist with techniques that never fail. Each class will build your skills and knowledge to help you become better at drawing and sketching. Draw with pencil, markers, colored pencils, and oil pastels to create dramatic images.

Do you love animals? Learn easy techniques to draw realistic pictures of your favorite creatures. Students will work from their own photographs of pets or pictures of animals from books, magazines, and other sources.

What do “found objects” have to do with art? Find out for yourself! We will create a unique project each week using a different found material. Students will experience the joy that comes from recycling found objects into art.

Art Fashions

Grades 3-8

Have you ever thought about putting your own original designs on shirts, bags, hats, etc.? If so, Art Fashions is the class for you! Students will learn to create their own stencils and will transfer them onto fabric with fabric paint. Students should have strong drawing skills for this course.

Students will learn to create structures using paper mache techniques; we will paint, decoupage, and build amazing creatures while exploring Greek and Roman mythology!

Think you can’t draw? Think again! This is a great class for beginners in the art of drawing. Students will be taught the different types of lines used in drawing and how to use various techniques and media.
