Summer private lesson registration is ongoing and we are flexible to your busy summer activities. At this time, you choose the number of lessons you’d like and a convenient day/time. Later, you’ll choose the weeks you’d like to have those lessons.

 

Summer Classes:

MUSIC: Early Childhood (3 months – 6 years)

 

Babies Music (3-18 months), with caregiver

SESSION 1: Mondays, June 11-July 16 (no class July 2), 9-9:30am

SESSION 2*: Mondays, July 30-August 27, 9-9:30am 

Participating in music enhances bonding between baby and caregiver while encouraging the discovery of sounds.  Watch as your child’s musical skills develop through singing and vocal play in this class.

Toddler Tunes (18 months-3 years), with caregiver

SESSION 1: Mondays, June 11-July 16 (no class July 2), 10-10:45am

SESSION 2*: Mondays, July 30-August 27, 10-10:45am

Repetition of familiar tunes, dances, and books stimulates the toddler’s musical learning. By absorbing new melodies and predicting the movements that will accompany them, young children are more easily able to soothe themselves and develop critical listening skills. Come share this time with your toddler while singing and dancing to your favorite songs and learning new ones as well.

Music and Me (3-5 years), with caregiver

Experience the joy of music-making through song, movement, rhythm instruments, and story-telling.  Children and caregivers will join together in playful activities that introduce beginning musical concepts and reinforce social and communication skills.

Preschool Folk Songs and Circle Games (4-6 years)

Wednesdays, June 20-July 25 (no class July 4), 2:30-3:15pm

This preschool music class encourages your young child to create, learn, play, and express himself through musical fun. Classes include instrument play, songs, and movement activities in a supportive environment that promotes independence.

Little Voices (4-5 years)

SESSION 1: Mondays, June 18-July 23, 12:30-1:15pm (no class 6/2)

SESSION 2*: Mondays, July 30-August 27, 12:30-1:15pm

Young singers come together and experience their first group singing class in Little Voices.  This class introduces music notation and beginning singing techniques through vocal play and music games.  The students will put on a small presentation for family and friends the last day of class.

Kids and Keys (5-6 years)

SESSION 1: Tuesdays, June 19- July 24 (no class July 3), 9-9:45am

SESSION 2*: Tuesdays, July 31-August 28, 9-9:45am

This class engages children in singing folk songs, learning to play simple instruments, and introduces them to reading and writing simple music notation; all within the process of developing basic keyboard skills.  Kids and Keys is excellent preparation for private piano lessons or our beginning piano class.

Beginning Piano (6-11years)

Rhapsody’s beginning piano class is ideal for the student with an interest in the piano and the parent with reservations about their child’s commitment to study. No experience needed—we start with the basics! Class is limited to four students. Students must have access to a piano for daily practice.

Kids on Broadway (6-11 years) 

Monday-Friday – July 9-13, 1:30-2:30pm (6-8 years)

Monday-Friday – July 16-20, 1:30-2:30pm (9-11 years)

Play cool music games, build confidence in your voice, increase your projection and perform group and solo songs in this week-long class. Students will learn to sing popular Broadway hits with healthy vocal techniques. A small performance for family and friends featuring our budding stars will be held on the last day of class.

Group Guitar (9-12 years)

Thursdays, August 2-August 30, 3-3:45pm

This beginning guitar class is perfect for the student with an interest in the guitar and no prior music lesson experience.  Students must have their own guitar for use during the class and for practice at home.

RAC goes GLEE!  (8-12 years)

SESSION 1: Thursdays, June 21-July 26 (no class July 5), 5-6pm

Join us for a fun-filled time singing and dancing to musical selections from this popular TV show! You need not have prior experience in a show choir or dance experience to take part.

Auditions Coaching

Do you have an important audition coming up for a school scholarship or competition? Are you a high school junior thinking about auditioning for a performing arts college next year and want to get a head start? Get the extra help you need to do your best! We can work on everything from choosing the correct material and creating a resume or just simply polishing up an already put together performance. Most importantly, you will learn how to be confident and have fun at your audition or competition!

All lessons are $25 for 30 minutes.  Choose from 4, 7 or 10 lesson packages.  Music, Theater, or Musical Theater Auditions.  Dates and Times individually arranged.

Friday Frets

Tuesdays, July 31, August 14, August 28, 4-5pm

Held on Friday during the academic year, this summer version of Friday Frets is designed to give Rhapsody’s students a unique opportunity to hear and learn about what other guitar & drum students and their teachers are working on. Students will be introduced to music outside of what they are covering in their individual lessons and listening to on their own.  Enjoy an opportunity to perform in a fun and relaxed environment.

Classes are not consecutive and students who do not wish to attend all three can opt for individual classes.  The registration deadline for each class is one week prior to class date.

Flute Choir (12-18 years)

Wednesdays, June 20-July 25 (no class July 4), 3:30-4:30pm

A flute choir is an ensemble of the flute family: Piccolo, C Flute, Alto Flute, and Bass Flute.  We will be working on a few fun pieces with a small performance at the end of the session.  We will work on playing together as an ensemble, trying new types of flutes, and working on basic and extended techniques.  The flute choir is challenging but fun, allowing students to harmonize and blend their sounds—things a flute can’t do alone!

Coffee and Classics (Adult)

SESSION 1: Tuesdays, June 12-July 17, 10:30-11:30am, (no class July 3)

Join us for a 5 week jaunt through the history of music from the Renaissance to the Modern era.  Taught in a local coffee shop, this overview class will be comfortable, very informative and likely approved by J.S. Bach.  Come and find out why!

Beginning Piano (Adult)

Mondays, June 18-August 27, 5:30-6:30pm (no class July 2)

Here is your chance to come and learn the basics about how to play piano.  This 10-week course will give you an introduction to treble clef and bass clef and teach you to identify notes on the keyboard and staff.  Participants will learn short familiar songs to increase confidence on the keys, and will be able to play several well known crowd pleasers by the end of the course!

Continuing Piano (Adult)

Mondays, June 18-August 27, 6:30-7:30pm (no class July 2)

Would you like to refresh your piano skills?  This 10-week course will incorporate left hand accompaniment chords and patterns while focusing on familiar melodies.  Students will be introduced to more advanced repertoire, while continuing to gain confidence at the keyboard.  Some previous piano experience is necessary.

ART

 

 

Painting for Kids (Grades 2-5)

Tuesdays, 6-7pm: April 10, 17, 24, May 1, 8, 15

This course is an introduction of different painting mediums for kids interested in exploring their artistic side. Their confidence will continue to grow as they are shown how to use a number of different mediums, including watercolor and acrylic.  Painting is fun and a great way to show self expression in this free-form painting class.  Just show up and let the creating begin!!

Art for Fun (Grades K-3)

Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: May 8, 15, 22, 29

This class focuses on creative expression through the use of found materials.  Gluing, painting, cutting, and drawing are just a few of the skills utilized in creating unique art.  The projects reinforce individual creativity using problem solving skills to complete each creation.

Cartooning for Beginners (Grades 2-6)

Have fun creating your own characters while learning the basics of cartoon art. Design, create, and write your own stories by using your imagination—just like the pros!

Young Artists (Grades K-3)

Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm: May 10, 17, 24, 31

This is a drawing class that will work on the simple concepts of shape and form to create more realistic and detailed drawings. Artists will work in pastels, color pencil, & markers while using drawing methods that never fail to produce breathtaking results. Formerly called Young Rembrandts.

The Power of Drawing (Grades 3-8)

This class will help aspiring artists develop their skills and imaginative ideas.  Each session builds facility and confidence while fostering the ability to express ideas through drawing.

Canvas Painting (Grades 3-8)

Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: June 6, 13, 20, 27

This is a class for advanced artists to explore painting on canvas paper, board and stretched canvas using acrylic paints.  The class will cover technique, style and methods to create inspired art.

Imagine That! (Grades K-3)

Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm: June 7, 14, 21, 28

These art lessons will explore a variety of materials and drawing tools while focusing on joyful and imaginative self-expressive art.  Students will use creative problem solving to create art projects.  There will be a focus on making choices using drawing and mixed media materials that will help create fantastic art.

A Different Way to Paint (Grades 2-5)

Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: July 10, 17, 24, 31

Using non-traditional methods, students will explore painting on Plexiglas, Masonite board, and cardboard.  The class will use a variety of materials such as spray paint, glue, and acrylic paint.

Building Art (Grades K-3)

Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: July 11, 18, 25

The class will use found objects such as tin cans, cardboard, and egg cartons for students to create fun and creative sculptures.  Use paint, glue, paper mache, and model magic to complete your three-dimensional masterpieces!

Drawing 101 (Grades K-3)

This skill-building class for the young artist encourages and shapes early drawing techniques. Each session will build on the skills learned as students work their sketches and ideas into fantastic finished pieces of artwork!

Learn to Draw (Grades 3-8)

Tuesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: August 7, 14, 21, 28

Take your drawing skills to a new level! Learn the secrets to becoming a better artist through techniques that never fail. Each class will build your skills and knowledge to help you become more skillful at drawing and sketching. Draw with pencil, markers, colored pencils and oil pastels to create dramatic images.

All Mixed Up (Grades K-3)

Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30pm: August 8, 15, 22, 29

Become a “pop artist” (no, that’s not just for singers – there really is a style of art called pop art)! Create artwork using dozens of different techniques and mediums. Paper mache, collage, pastels, paint, sculpture, and much more will be used to create highly stylized art.  Expect to draw, print, paint, sculpt and more. Have special ideas for projects? Painting 101 (Grades K-3)

Thursdays, 4:30-5:30pm: August 9, 16, 23, 30

Take the next step in creating beautiful paintings in Painting 101.  Each session will teach you skills to become a better painter with basic direction and practice.  Learn how to plan your painting and how to match and blend colors like a pro.  Paint with watercolors, tempera and acrylic paints on paper, board and canvas.

Art Madness!

Beyond the Brush

Unlock your imagination as we turn everyday items such as sticks, leaves and feathers into paintbrushes.  Students have fun and learn different ways to create beautiful works of art!

Sponge Painting

Have fun creating an impressionist painting with sponges.  Students will learn how to make works of art out of shapes that look different in the distance!

Bubble Bonanza

Play with your art!  Students will use creative straws to make fun shapes and  designs with bubbles and ink.  This is the perfect art project for summer!

 

Jump and Jive

Movement is such an important part of way we function in the world. When children develop proper motor planning skills other skills such as balance, coordination, self-esteem, and body awareness follow. In this class students will be exposed to different movement and dance activities that will assist and organizing and developing rhythm and motor planning. Activities include parachute, coup band, choreographed movement, and free dance.

 

Piano Plus

This isn’t your ordinary piano class!  This course focuses on music for two, three, even four players at once!  All levels welcome, no experience necessary.

 

Music According to Bugs

Do you like cartoons?  Do you think classical music is…boring?  Check out “Music According to Bugs”,  where we will watch a classic Warner Brothers cartoon which features classical music and then we will discuss the music.  Come prepared to laugh, be entertained and to learn!

 

Acting Unlimited

This two day workshop will help increase confidence, creative thinking, and get you in the mindset of acting though the use of skits and other fun activities!

Summer Singers

Build confidence in your voice and learn new vocal techniques in this week long class! Students will learn classical, musical theater, and popular songs in a choral setting. No previous choral experience is necessary. If you love to sing, you will love this class!

 

Sizzling Strings

This session will focus on small ensemble playing to teach young string players how to better play as a group. During the class, students will practice listening to each other to improve the sound of the ensemble.  Open to cello, violin, viola, or bass players.  Prerequisite: students must have some prior string experience, as well as access to an instrument for daily practice.

 

Creative Composition

This class will focus on where and how to find original ideas, as well as how to translate them into music. Students will work on modeling already composed pieces of music, and from there, derive our own pieces. The ability to notate music by hand is very important to this class, and in the first session, we will go over basic notation conventions. Students will compose their own short pieces modeled on various types of music discussed in class.

 

Producers in Training

Learn how to use computer recording software to make professional quality songs.  Students will learn how to work with loops, virtual instruments, effects and more.  If you’ve ever wanted to know how to use music-making software like Garage Band, this class is for you!

 

Pop Art Explosion

Explore the 19680’s pop art movement by creating art in the style of the biggest names in art history.  Students will create their own pop art with flair, emulating the works of Andy Warhol and many more.  A mixed media class that will use spray paint, paper mache, collage, and comic books to create pop art.
